K9 Teams Search Solok Flash Flood Victims

RRI.CO.ID SOLOK — The Polsatwa Unit of the Directorate of Samapta (Ditsamapta) of the West Sumatra Regional Police (Polda Sumbar) has deployed a special Search and Rescue (SAR) team to follow up on leadership directives for a sweeping operation in areas affected by the flash flood. The operation was carried out on Thursday, September 24, 2026, combing the area starting from behind the Regent’s Office.

The deployment was described as a rapid response to the challenging terrain left by the flood material. Head of Public Relations of Polda Sumbar, Police Grand Commissioner Susmelawati Rosya, stated that the use of K9 tracking dogs is a strategic move to optimize the search process in locations that are difficult for human personnel to reach.

“The West Sumatra Regional Police continues to maximize all available resources, including deploying the Polsatwa K9 Unit which has special SAR specifications. This step was taken to accelerate the sweeping process on the ground, especially in areas affected by flood material,” said Commissioner Susmelawati Rosya on Thursday, September 24, 2026.

For this operation, Ditsamapta Polda Sumbar dispatched four experienced personnel led directly by the Head of the Harvet Polsatwa Sub-Unit, Aipda Hamidi Rahmadhoni. He was accompanied by three other personnel: Briptu Muhardi Iqbal, Bripda Alif Mulya Putra, and Bripda Visky Wiryan Sugiat, all trained in handling SAR operations in disaster conditions.

The team was supported with significant tactical assets. They were equipped with two special vehicles (Ransus) belonging to Polsatwa and brought two highly reliable German Shepherd (Herder) tracking dogs with certified SAR specifications. These dogs are trained to detect human scent under debris, mud, and flood material.
