K-9 Unit Assists Combined Anti Drug Team and Homeland Security in Calcasieu Parish, Illegal Immigrant Arrested For Narcotics Distribution

On August 12, 2026, detectives with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Combined Anti-Drug Team (CAT) along with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Interstate 10 near mile marker 15 after observing a traffic violation.
During the investigation, detectives identified the driver as Enrique Octavio Ramirez-Fuentes. Detectives observed several indicators of possible criminal activity, including conflicting travel information provided by the occupants of the vehicle.
A narcotics detection K9 was deployed around the exterior of the vehicle and gave a positive indication to the odor of narcotics. Prior to a search of the vehicle, Ramirez-Fuentes admitted to detectives that approximately five kilograms of cocaine were located inside the trunk.
A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of approximately five (5) kilograms of suspected cocaine.
Ramirez-Fuentes was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on charges related to possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
Through further investigation, detectives learned Ramirez-Fuentes was unlawfully present in the United States, and an immigration detainer was placed on him by HSI.
The investigation remains ongoing.

Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule II CDS (Cocaine)
Bond has not been set for the possession charge.

The Combined Anti-Drug Task Force is a collaborative effort, comprised of law enforcement officials from local, state and federal agencies, aimed at ceasing the trafficking of illegal substances in Calcasieu Parish.
