Jacksonville State University adds K-9 officer to campus police

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (WBRC) – Jacksonville State University (JSU) now has their own canine officer to help keep students and visitors safe during events.
The Jacksonville State University Police Department has added Daphne, a 2-year-old Labrador Retriever, to their ranks. She is trained to detect firearms and explosives, especially in large crowds.
Her arrival is a welcome asset since prior to her, the department was reliant on K-9 support from the Jacksonville Police Department and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).
According to JSU, adding a K-9 officer has been a goal for the department for years. They were able to partner with the Alabama Law Enforcement Appreciation Foundation, as well as Global K9.
