Class: Thoughts on K-9 and Handler Selection
This class provides a comprehensive look at the critical process of canine procurement, focusing on the selection, evaluation, and initial training of police service dogs. Drawing on over 40 years of experience from Adlerhorst International—an industry leader in supplying top-tier working dogs for law enforcement and elite military units—this course equips attendees with the knowledge needed to make informed procurement decisions.
In addition to selecting the right canine, the course will address the often-overlooked but equally important task of hiring and pairing the right handler. We will examine key traits and qualifications to look for in a prospective K9 handler, emphasizing the importance of aligning the handler’s personality, skill set, and mindset with the mission of the unit. A well-matched team enhances operational effectiveness, while a poor pairing can undermine team dynamics and long-term success.
Whether you’re a handler, supervisor, or administrator involved in building or managing a K9 program, this class offers actionable insights to help ensure your team is mission-ready from day one.
