St. C. police dog retiring

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — After eight years on patrol, the city’s police dog, Beau, is retiring and the Belgian Malinois will continue to live with his partner and handler, Lt. Mike Troullos.

“He’s going to stay with us at home, with the family, and be like a normal pet,” Troullos said, adding that civilian life may take an adjustment for Beau. “He’s used to working 12-hour shifts.”

Troullos jokingly said he might need to hide items at home for Beau to find. Troullos pointed out that being a handler for a K-9 officer is a demanding but rewarding experience.

“He’s been a great partner. It’s been a lot of extra work, but it’s well worth it when you need it,” he said.

He purchased the dog from the city for $1, as is allowed by Ohio Revised Code. Read More
