Sheriff’s K9 division receives hefty donation

La PORTE — The La Porte County Sheriff’s Department accepted a $10,500 donation from Cannon’s Automotive Services in what Sheriff John Boyd called the largest single amount donation the department has ever received from the community.
The donation will go toward the purchase of a new K9 deputy, as Hokie – one of the department’s current K9 deputies – is set to retire by the end of the year. Boyd said the new K9 would be a dual purpose narcotics and apprehension dog, the same as their upcoming K9 Bosco – who is still finishing training.
“We’re blessed to have people who care,” Major Heath Haferkamp told the owners and employees of Cannon’s, who all gathered together to present the donation to members of the sheriff’s department and K9 division – including currently four-legged deputies Argo and Jäger. Read More
