MOSES LAKE – Thanks to community donations, the Moses Lake Police Department has its first ever patrol K9.
K9 Chief, a 21-month-old German Shepherd named after Chief Moses, has been partnered with officer Nick Stewart. The two will start a 10-week training program March 5 in Spokane.
“We should have them up and running by the first part of June in Moses Lake, protecting the citizens and protecting the officers here at the police department,” Chief Kevin Fuhr said. “We have been hoping for this program for a while. We see the success that the (Grant County Sheriff’s Office) has had with their dog program and how effective dogs are in apprehending the criminals and searching buildings and just keeping the officers safe.”
To date, the department has received more than $30,000 in donations from 16 local businesses and private residents. The department will also be receiving about $10,000 from The Kiwanis Club of Moses Lake and Rotary Club of Moses Lake Golf Scramble held in June. Read More
