This course is designed for the canine handler, unit level trainer, and unit supervisors managing tactical incidents involving a canine unit. This course will cover the following:
- Review of Case Studies
- Management of professional K-9 training program
- Management of police service dog deployments
- Post deployment use of force investigations
- Personnel management
- Legal update specific to police service dogs (presented by Eugene Ramirez)
More than reciting case law, this course will be two days of interactive discussion, soliciting input from class participants and drawing realistic feedback from course presenters. Presented by a combination of civil litigation attorneys, a police service dog handler, canine unit supervisor and unit trainer. The participant will gain valuable insight and be provided up to date information from the different viewpoints of each presenter. This course is applicable to all experience levels.
The course will be instructed by Ernie Wolosewicz, founder of CDS. Ernie retired as the K9 Unit Supervisor for the Long Beach Police Department and was the K9 Unit Trainer. He has 26 years of K9 experience in handling Patrol/SWAT/Tracking K9, Explosive Detection K9, and Narcotics Detection K9. Ernie has an extensive amount of operational and training experience, and has developed and implemented training, tactics and protocols for the Long Beach Police Department K9 Unit.
