Lima, Ohio — The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is unleashing their newest crime-fighting tool.
Law enforcement now has access to an Electronic Detection K-9 named Reptar. The 22-month old black Labrador retriever has received special training to sniff out chemicals associated with electronic devices. Man’s best friend has proved he can now locate hidden electronic devices with storage capabilities like computers, cell phones, hard drives, and even small memory cards. Reptar has already been able to show off his skills too. He proved to be monumental in a recent child pornography investigation by discovering a hidden SD card inside a drawer with a false bottom.
The unique K-9 came at a cost of around $11,000 which was covered by two grants awarded to the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.
