Clam boil to benefit Fall River police K9s and their humans

FALL RIVER — Sniffing out drugs, chasing perpetrators though the streets and seeking out explosives are all a part of the working K9′s life.

Because of their tough job, police dogs suffer more injuries. And when they do, treatment is at the expense of their police officer handlers.

Forever Paws Animal Shelter and Fall River Animal Control will help these doggie-do-gooders by sponsoring a clam boil to benefit the K9 Fall River Police Working Dog Foundation Sunday, Aug. 18, at the Elks Lodge, 4500 N. Main St.

Seating is at 12:30 p.m. with the meal at 1 p.m. The cost is $25 per person, plus cash bar.

“That’s so awesome of them,” said Fall River Police Detective Gary Barboza. “We have five police dogs.”

Barboza, an officer with the Fall River Police Department for 33 years, has been a K9 officer for the past decade. He is on his second police pooch, Capone, a 3-1/2 year old black Labrador retriever. Read More
